How to Maintain Your Men’s Swim Trunks to Extend Their Service Life

A high-quality pair of men’s swim trunks is a summer staple, but many people damage their swimwear quickly due to incorrect washing and storage habits. Saltwater, pool chlorine, sunscreen and body oils all gradually break down swim fabric, leading to fading, stretching or thinning. Simple daily care can greatly prolong its lifespan.

The first rule: rinse swim trunks immediately after use. Chlorine in swimming pools and salt from seawater are the biggest enemies of swimwear. As soon as you finish swimming, rinse the trunks under cold fresh water to wash away residual chlorine, salt and sunscreen lotion. Don’t leave them crumpled wet inside a bag for hours.

When washing, hand wash with mild cold water detergent is highly recommended. Never use bleach, fabric softener or strong laundry powder. These chemicals damage the elastic fibers and cause discoloration. Avoid washing them in the washing machine, as strong rotation will loosen stitching and ruin elasticity.

Never put swim trunks into the dryer or expose them directly under strong sunlight for long time. High heat and harsh UV rays weaken fabric elasticity and speed up fading. Lay them flat or hang in a shaded, well-ventilated place to air dry.

Also, avoid sitting directly on rough poolside concrete or sharp rocks, which may scratch and snag the fabric. When not in use, store them loosely, do not fold tightly for a long period.
